Chickens

Let's just back up here a bit.  Before we trashed all of our building
plans, we decided to bring more creatures into our lot.  We decided to get some chickens...
...and they came in a little box in the mail...
...and we cleaned their bottoms so the little cuties wouldn't get sick (or even die!) from their vents sealing shut.

Then they grew rather quickly, so we let them sample the out of doors.

We decided to name them after our grandmothers...after all, Viola, Hattie, Agatha, Kate, Florence, and Beatrix are great names for grandma's AND chickens.

Then we found a great coop for them online.  It was delivered by some lovely Amish folk in the middle of the night.
Then they moved in and we watched them do some chicken things for many evenings.

New House!

Well, plans have obviously changed.  We bought a house across the road from where we intended to build.  It is a big ranch house built in 1981.  It sits on 3.5 acres and has a lake view!

It was a sudden opportunity we could not pass up.  Now we are in the process of changing much of the interior to update the "granny ranch" vibe.  Stay tuned for more photos and updates!

The beginning.....

Hello.  My name is Dawn.  My partner and I bought 7 acres of farm land in 2009.We are at the beginning stages of building what we perceive to be a modern home on this land.  We came up with a plan, met a nice retired architect who put my crayon in more professional terms, and we are meeting with a few different builders.  We hope to do a lot of the interior work ourselves.
Since purchasing the land, we have planted around 100 trees, hand planted some grass, and walk on the mowed paths as often as we can.  We are very much looking forward getting our place built and sharing it with friends and family.
